About
Benjamin Keating is an American classical pianist from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois studying Piano Performance with an emphasis in Collaborative Piano with Dr. Catherine Kautsky at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music.
Keating began piano studies at age 5; since then, he has become an active performer, devout collaborator, and a lifelong musician. At the piano, Keating performs a wide variety of the classical repertoire, with a focus on music written after the turn of the 20th century, while also exploring the works of living composers and the works of his colleagues. Keating has most recently reached the finals of the William C. Byrd International Competition, the PianoArts North American Competition and the Panama City Emerging Artists Competition. Keating has earned first-place awards with the Schubert Club, MTNA Wisconsin, and the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Keating has engaged with the Bowdoin Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Mostly Modern Festival, and the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and at Carnegie Hall. Keating also studies conducting and serves as a rehearsal pianist and conductor with the Lawrence University Opera Theatre.
Some fun facts about me: I was featured on an episode of NPR’s Performance Today on the “Piano Puzzler” special, I can perform Steve Reich’s Clapping Music by myself, and I was almost chosen to be a contestant on Teen Jeopardy.
Keating thanks his mother, father, and twin sister for their never-ending love and support.
